To the dismay of many fans, Regé-Jean Page, who played the Duke of Hastings and Daphne's love interest in the first season, will not be returning for season 2. The actor's exit from Bridgerton was a personal choice, and in an interview with Variety, Page revealed that he was drawn to the role largely because of the short-term commitment.

"It's a one-season arc. It's going to have a beginning, middle, end – give us a year," Page explained. "[I]t felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on."
